"Le Gauche Papillion" means "The Clumsy Butterfly". The name came about from a group of left over letters from a wall art project. French is my favorite language and even though I am not fluent. The studio has been moved twice and it takes on a new life each time. My weekends are spent in thrift and antique stores. Our entire house was created from secondhand items that have been repurposed. I am never afraid of something a that has wear and tear. To me it all salvagable!

Taj Mahal Bench

The back to this bench is an old tin headboard from the 1970's. When I purchased the head board it was with the idea that it would make a great back to a bench. My husband built the bench and attached the headboard. I played around with various ideas for the paint and then settled on the blue. Then came the question of what to do with the center panel. Of course the Taj Mahal seemed appropriate since the bench looked a little like some of the more ornate details one would see in India. There is storage under the seat. This bench currently resides on my front porch.

Vintage

This is the birth of my new line of jewelry. These are vintage looking velvet chokers that all have a unique charm. The clasps are hand sewn to the ribbon.

Magic Mirror

This started out as an ugly blue mirror with a funky design on the back. As you can see I fabric magiced it, and added some ultra special lace with a muted green ribbon. Now it has a classy vintage look to it.

Tucson remembered

This little item started out as one of those white picked fense looking things. When I saw it, my mind traveled back to my trip to Tucson and the bright colored windows in the barrio. Thus this took on the look of the spanish influenced architecture. The stained glass back is actually plastic window cling.

Recycled trash bag box

I was at work, throwing out the trash when I realized how sturdy the trash bag box was. I knew I had to do something with it.

My mother told me once that I was good at creating things but, I took it too far. In creating this magazine holder I went with my mothers words and used ultra snazzy fabric, then lined the inside with felt. Of course you can use any fabric to match your decor. I do recommend the felt inside to create a sturdy material that will hold up to the magazine stress.

Heart box

Your standard heart box. the top is decoupaged with a lace doilie. The sides have brands like Tiffany and Gucci. The inside I finished in a tapestry fabric.

Heart hanger

The heart started out a country style with lace around the edge, it was very dated. This is really hard to see but, I painted a faux leather look look. I did decoupage the "be an original" on the heart. I was thinking a teenage girl would like to have this in her room. Not too girly- girl.

Signs, signs

This small sign originally said "Welcome". I have always been a fan of the Boho style. I painted the sign black and distressed it a bit. Rather than using a regular hanger I used a set of pearls to create a unique look. The number three has sort of become my number thuse it's Boho #3. :)

Framed

I picked up this small gold frame from the thrift store for $00.79. No glass, no back but the frame did have something going for it, it was deep. I covered a piece of cardboard with black velvet and stapled it to the back, they I stapled the ribbon to the back. With this project I challenged myself to display a random forgotten object from my dresser drawer. The objects I found were the coins my great aunt collected when she was traveling all over the world as a stewardess. I glued the coins in place and viola! Now this piece is ready to hang.

Getting it together...

Life seems to move so fast these days. I am still organizing the studio. My next project will be to archive and scrapbook my grandparents photos. I should have some new projects up by Monday. Have a great weekend!
